THE son of a former police officer who burgled his parents' home while they were on holiday lost his liberty yesterday for disobeying court orders.
Daniel Catchpole, 21, was on bail after pleading guilty to entering a house in Anchor Road, Harrogate, and stealing a gold sovereign, half-sovereign and a gold rope chain worth a total of £700.
Harrogate magistrates had ordered probation reports, but when the case was called yesterday, no report was available.
Catchpole had failed to inform the probation service that he had quit his accommodation - sleeping on the floor at a friend's flat - in Albert Street, Harrogate and moved to Ripon.
Catchpole, a labourer, who is now living in YMCA accommodation in Water Skellgate, Ripon, was said to have used a back door key to enter his parents' home. He had pawned his haul at shops in York and Leeds.
Court chairman Tim Burrell told Catchpole: ''The only way we can get a probation report is if we remand you in custody.''
Catchpole is to return to court for sentencing on March 31.
