AN old curiosity shop is to open in Darlington town centre later this year to showcase items normally unseen by museum visitors.
The display opens on Saturday in Redcar High Street, but is due to visit Darlington, in September and October.
The exhibits include a two million-year-old mammoth's skull and the world's smallest cat and dog.
Redcar is the first to kick off the initiative, aimed at making museums more attractive to the public, by displaying items from collections in empty shops.
The Curiosity Shop, next to the British Heart Foundation shop, is open from Saturday until Saturday, April 23.
The project is led by Hartlepool Museums Service in a partnership involving 12 Tees Valley museums and art galleries.
