A FAMILY company of cheese makers has won five honours at the World Cheese Awards in London.

Shepherds Purse, of Thirsk, was up against 1,600 entries from around the world, including South Africa, Croatia, Spain and Greece.

The company took two gold awards, one silver and two bronze. The gold awards came in the Best British Blue-Veined cheese category for its English Byland Blue and the Mould-Ripened cheese category for its Sheperon cheese.

Judy Bell, chief executive of Shepherds Purse, said: "We are all absolutely delighted at how well our cheeses have done at this year's awards, which builds on our success at last year's event where we achieved a bronze and a gold for two of our products.

"The success is a testament to the absolute dedication and passion that Shepherds Purse has."
