A CLUB that organises social activities and offers advice to people with mobility problems hopes to find its own base so it can hold more events for members.

Newton Aycliffe Mobility Club was formed less than a year ago and already has about 30 members from across the Sedgefield borough.

The club holds social meetings every fortnight at the British Legion Club, in Newton Aycliffe, but hopes to find its own premises in the town so it can meet more often.

A spokesperson said: "The club is doing a good service to everybody in the area who has any kind of mobility problem, but can only meet once a fortnight.

"If we had our own premises we could carry out a much more extensive role in the community and it is terrible to see so many empty properties in the town centre when we could put one to this good use."

Owners of disused buildings that could accommodate the club, potential volunteers or people who can donate bric-a-brac for fundraising are asked to call Ernie Wilson on (01325) 314606.
