THE PUBLIC appears to have developed cold feet over a charity fundraising event.

St Cuthbert's Hospice, Durham, has staged hot coal walks to raise cash over the past two years.

But a third stunt, which was due to have taken place in the Market Place, Durham, last night, was cancelled.

The hospice still plans to stage the event and hopes to rearrange it for a date yet to be fixed.

Dubbed, "the shortest sponsored walk in the world", it will be overseen by experts who will advise participants on the best technique to put mind over matter and stride 20ft barefoot across white-hot coals.

Anyone who may be interested in taking part, can ring 0191-386 1170 for further details and for a registration pack.

* An Easter fair, with treasure hunt, a fancy dress competition for the under-eights, a painted egg contest, crafts and children's games, will be held at the hospice, in Park House Road, Merryoaks, on Sunday, from 2pm to 4.30pm. Amission is £2, which includes a treat.
