A TOWN will be blowing its floral trumpet next week to mark the first day of spring.
Harrogate's triumph in winning the Europe in Bloom gold floral award last year will be marked by "planting" the trophy in the town's famous floral centre, Montpellier Gardens, alongside Betty's cafe and tea rooms.
Harrogate in Bloom and the council decided the popular gardens, often featured on picture postcards and in the district's guide books, would be the ideal place to show off the heavy tablet-style award.
Organisers of Harrogate's successful entry believe the town's petal power success will draw more visitors.
They have chosen Judith Donovan, newly-appointed chairman of Yorkshire Tourist Board, to unveil the award at a ceremony in the gardens on Monday, at 10am.
Harrogate Mayor Coun Margaret-Ann de Courcey-Bayley, will attend along with members of the Harrogate in Bloom project.
Harrogate and the Nidderdale village of Darley both took gold awards in the Europe in Bloom contest last year.
