COUNCILLORS voted unanimously to reject five new homes planned for a sloping site at a former Ripon quarry.
But because members voted against planning officers' advice, they must re-run the application at the next meeting of an area planning committee of Harrogate Borough Council.
Planning officer Mike Warden pointed out there was outline permission for housing on the site at Doublegates Quarry fronting Clotherholme Road.
The application was tabled by A&G Developments (Yorkshire) Ltd.
A scheme for five new homes on the site has been allowed on appeal.
But Ripon City Council did not accept designs as presented.
They also feared the development was too close to the road.
