COUNCIL workers are to be rewarded with bonuses for good attendance records.
Ferryhill Town Council's staff have shown their commitment with absence levels well below the national average.
They have brought the average number of sick days taken down to 2.7 days a year.
The national average within the public sector is 8.9 days and in the private sector it is 6.9 days.
Town councillors are so delighted with the records and commitment of staff that a bonus scheme is to be introduced for those with the best record.
Council leader Bernie Lamb said "We undoubtedly have a committed and contented workforce who are prepared to go that extra mile to ensure we deliver the highest quality services possible.
"I know we have some staff that have been with us for many years and have yet to call in sick, that does not happen unless you are committed to your employer and your job."
