LEYBURN all but ended Richmond Mavericks A's title hopes last Saturday with a 4-2 triumph as leaders Middleham battled their way to a point.

Steven Butterworth and a brilliant solo effort from Matt Chilton put Leyburn 2-0 up at the break as Mavericks missed some good chances.

Leyburn took just 15 seconds of the second half to put the game - and maybe the title - beyond their visitors as Shaun Osborne finished off a sweeping move.

Charlie Cox pulled one back, but Ian Rounce hit Leyburn's fourth after another slick move. Gary Nicholson scored a late consolation after turning a defender and hitting an excellent finish.

Middleham found themselves two down at half-time against champions Carperby, but fought back to draw 2-2 in another entertaining game.

Jimmy Wilkinson saw a penalty saved inside five minutes and Paul Stephenson's deflected free kick at the other end put Carperby ahead within a minute.

Tim Peacock turned and struck a wonderful shot into the top corner to put Rovers further in front before the break. But Peacock went off hurt at half-time and Town fought their way back into it, with John Acton's diving header giving them hope.

Mike Bailey's glancing header in the closing stages earned Middleham a vital point.

Bottom club Spennithorne and Harmby shocked Colburn with a 4-1 away win.

Andy Cole latched on to a quick free kick to put Spenny ahead and Stuart Murray doubled the lead on the half-hour mark with a close-range header following a slick move.

Colburn pulled one back in a promising spell before the break, but Martin Dixon bagged a double as Spenny regained control in the second period.

Redmire also recorded a surprise away win as they came from behind to beat Reeth 3-2.

Stuart Gall's own goal gave Reeth an early lead before Neil MacGregor turned in the box to fire the equaliser.

Redmire went in at half-time 2-1 down, but dominated the rest of the encounter.

Bruce Lambert headed a leveller from a Paul Price cross and Scott Ryde grabbed a glorious late winner with a diving header from Sam Holmes' centre.

It was Reeth's second home defeat last week after they went down 2-1 against Carperby on Easter Monday.

Bowes thundered to an 8-1 victory at Askrigg with Wayne Thwaites hitting a hat-trick in the first quarter.

Thwaites benefited from good work from Rory Edwards and Robbie Hudson to put Bowes three up before Gary Cockerill headed home Gary Richardson's cross for Askrigg.

John Close headed the visitors' fourth after the break before Neil Gulliver and sub Andrew Close both bagged doubles.

Hawes United defeated Richmond Buck 2-0 at home thanks to a double from the in-form Adam Hollingworth. Hollingworth scored midway through each half, with his second coming from a 30-yard lob
