THREE candidates will take part in a General Election question time organised by a church group.

The three contenders for the Bishop Auckland seat are Richard Bell (Conservative), Helen Goodman (Labour) and Chris Foote-Wood (Liberal Democrat).

They will be at a meeting in the United Reformed Church, in Barnard Castle, on Tuesday, May 3.

The question and answer session has been arranged by Churches Together in Barnard Castle and Startforth.

Anyone who wants to put a question to any of the candidates is asked to submit it, in writing, to Elizabeth Conran, the Churches Together secretary at 31, Thorngate, Barnard Castle, DL12 8QB, by Friday, April 29.

The people whose questions are selected will be invited to the meeting.

The Bishop Auckland seat has been held by Labour's Derek Foster, who has decided to retire.
