Spennymoor owner Benny Mottram is adamant his club won't play another game unless the league relents about signing a keeper.

Moors are in deep trouble with the league after failing to fulfil their home game with Prescot Cables last night. The situation is set to get worse tomorrow because Moors are supposed to play a fixture at Leek Town. Moors are expecting further fines on top of the £8000 already received and a points deduction.

Mottram said: "We're not playing another game until the league says we can sign a keeper. We're not going to put a weakened team on the field and lose heavily because that would be unfair on the other teams in the league."

But the league insist Moors had three keepers registered on deadline day - Chris Trotter, Phil Naisbett and Steve Tierney and will not relent.

Mottram is now considering civil action against the league for its stance on signing a keeper, claiming he should be allowed to under special circumstances.

Moors still have nine games left to play this season, which ends on April 30, and their next game is at Leek tomorrow.

They have already failed to fulfil the fixture at Leek on two previous occasions.

Taking the latest indiscretion into account, it is looking likely the UniBond League Board will recommend to a meeting of club chairmen a week on Sunday that Moors should be expelled.

Mottram has already indicated he will appeal against any decision - and that will throw the end of season play-offs into turmoil.

He has vowed the club won't resign, a stance that is pushing the league into a dilemma, although they have been following FA advice.

Former manager Graeme Clark revealed he won't be coming forward to save the club.

Clark, who returned to manage the team in what looks like their final game at home to Blyth last week, has been linked with a rescue package along with John Charlton, but it appears doomed to failure.

Clark said: "There are too many hurdles to overcome. It looks like a non-starter."

l Peterborough player-coach Andy Legg looks set to miss the rest of the season as he is having a possible cancerous tumour removed from his neck.

The 38-year-old defender had a similar tumour removed four years ago but kept the cancer scare private.

The Northern Ireland international was forced out of the weekend win at Watford with suspected ankle ligament damage.

The 25-year-old was due to have a scan to determine the extent of the damage, but it was postponed until later in the week.
