HOMES in Hartlepool are receiving an energy-efficient makeover thanks to a £90,000 grant.

The money from the Energy Savings Trust has gone to housing association Housing Hartlepool, which recently took over a number of properties transferred from the local council.

Eighty homes in the town will receive structural and thermal efficiency improvements, such as external cladding, aimed at reducing carbon emissions into the environment which can contribute to global warming.

The project, which is due to be completed in early summer, is expected to be extended further across the town, with funding in place for more improvements.

The Energy Saving Trust's Innovation Programme provides funding and support for local authorities and housing associations and their project partners to promote and implement innovative approaches to reducing carbon emissions.

The fund helps combat climate change, but also improves the living conditions of people struggling to heat their homes adequately.
