SIX teenagers will appear in court next month accused of prison mutiny after a riot at a North-East young offenders' institution.

The suspects are expected to enter pleas at their next appearance, following a brief preliminary hearing yesterday.

Three of them - Zico Reid, 18, Nathan Walters, 19, and Desmond Noonan, 19 - were brought from jails in Norwich and Leicester for yesterday's case.

The others - Carlos Buller, Nathan Hogg and Ramone Brown, all aged 19 - appeared through a video-link from Chelmsford Prison, in Essex.

Six teenagers, all from the Manchester area, were moved from Deerbolt Young Offenders' Institution, at Barnard Castle, County Durham, following the large-scale disturbance in February.

Prison officers had to use stun guns to quell the riot, which broke out in the prison chapel and lasted seven hours.

The six will next appear at Teesside Crown Court for a plea and directions hearing on May 16
