THREE youths who upset villagers by roaring around grassland on motorbikes have been warned by police that their bikes will be confiscated if they do it again.

The riders were stopped by police on a fell on the outskirts of Cockfield near Barnard Castle, at the weekend.

The officers were called by local residents, who protested that they could get no peace because of the continual roar and whine of engines.

The three were issued with warnings under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act stating that if they ride again in this manner their bikes will be seized.

Acting Sergeant Mick Urwin said: "We hope this is enough to force them to stop. Several other young riders have been issued with similar notices in the past and they have stayed away.

Anyone who sees anyone riding motorbikes on the fell can call police on 0845-6060365.
