JOCKEY Clive Mulhall was in double winning form at the Cleveland point to point held at Stainton Vale last Sunday.

First leg came in the Members on the Barr's Stepastray. Stepastray was held up early, he closed three from home, took up the running between the last two and eased clear to record a six length win. Jacky Sawney's The Viking led at the second last but was easily outpaced by the winner, Nigel Tutty riding.

Mulhall completed his double when the ex chaser Scotmail Lad (Badsworth), trained by his wife Martina, took the Men's Open. Michael Tate on his own Maitre De Musique (Hurworth) made most in this race. He led until Scotmail Lad, who had been held up early, took up the running three from home. Despite a strong challenge from Maitre De Musique, the favourite was always going the better and kept on for a one and a half length win.

Mark Walford was also in double winning form. First leg was on Cmewin (S Stilgoe/Sinnington) in the Restricted. Cmewin was a somewhat fortunate winner. Queenies Girl (S Frank/Hurworth), ridden by trainer Paul Frank, had gone 15 lengths clear coming to the last. At the last, the tiring mare tried to refuse and nearly unseated her jockey.

This left Cmewin, who had gone second two from home, to hit the front and keep on for a 15-length win. Queenies Girl got over the fence and finished second, six lengths clear of the favourite Snizort (P Watson/Middleton), who finished strongly after being virtually tailed off under Freya Hartley.

Walford's double was completed when the Gill Walford-trained Polyarnoe Bay (C Spencer/Sinnington) took the young horses Maiden. Knight Crossing (C Dennis/Hurworth) and Polyarnoe Bay disputed the lead until the second last. After the fence Polyarnoe Bay pulled clear and despite an error at the last was a distance clear at the line. Knight Crossing, ridden by Nigel Tutty plugged on for second.

The Tony Walker-trained The Graduate (C Robertson) put up his usual front running performance in the Intermediate. He made every yard of the running until overtaken by the Charlie Brader-trained Duchesss Account (R Brader/Middleton) at the last. Duchess Account, who was always travelling well in midfield for Emma Brader, ran on strongly for a two length win. The Graduate, who was ridden by Simon Walker, kept on well to take second.

1-5 favourite Mister Bromley (Middleton) had no problem in continuing Serena Brotherton's successful season when he took the Ladies' Open. Mister Bromley hit the front two from home and pulled away for a very easy 20-length win. Over The Beck (H Marks/South Durham), who cut out much of the early running, finished second from Alan Jackson's Londolozi Lad (Cleveland) who was second when falling at the last and remounted to finish third.

* On Sunday the York & Ainsty point to point takes place at Easingwold, first race 2pm.
