LUCKLESS Stephen Thomas may not play again this season after the Darlington midfielder suffered his latest injury setback at the weekend, writes Lee Hall.

The 25-year-old has been told he faces three more weeks on the treatment table after limping off after just 36 minutes of the 2-0 win over Rushden and Diamonds with a hamstring injury.

Thomas' season has been ravaged by injury since moving from Wrexham on a free transfer during the summer.

Despite being a virtual ever-present for the Welsh side last season, the Hartlepool-born player has been restricted to just 11 starts since returning to the North-East.

After recovering from a hernia Thomas appeared to have put his injury problems behind him when he made his third successive start at the weekend.

However, the midfielder now faces a race to be fit in time for any involvement in the play-offs next month.

"The luck Stephen has had with us this season has been unbelievable," said assistant manager Mark Proctor. "The lad has worked so hard to get himself fit and he suffers another setback like this.

"It's disappointing for him and it's massively disappointing for us as well."

And, while Proctor can sympathise with Thomas' plight, he insists the player must remain positive.

"It's obviously very frustrating for Stephen, but he must keep his chin up and look to get fit again," said Proctor. "Hopefully he'll still have some part to play for us this season, but the last thing we want to do is rush him back.

"I'm sure Stephen will want to be involved if we reach the play-offs, although we will have to wait and see how he responds in the next couple of weeks."

Bobby Petta suffered a dead leg, although the Dutch winger will be fit to face Lincoln this weekend.

Striker Alun Armstrong will be assessed this morning after a recurrence of a calf strain.

Despite recovering from a back problem Neil Maddison was rested at the weekend, although the skipper could come back into contention against Lincoln.

Cambridge were relegated from Coca-Cola League Two on Saturday after their goalless draw against Rochdale.

Steve Thompson's side could not muster the goal they needed at Abbey Stadium to extend their survival battle.

Kidderminster lost 3-0 to Boston.

The League Two title remains up for grabs after the none of the top four managed a victory.

Yeovil went top even though they could only draw with Wycombe, who took the lead through Clint Easton in the 23rd minute.

Lee Johnson levelled two minutes later to move his side above Southend.

Southend were beaten 2-1 by Oxford at the Kassam Stadium. Craig Davies and Tommy Mooney scored before Freddy Eastwood pulled one back.
