Q I am 57 and have Incapacity Benefit of £68 a week and Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for mobility. My wife is 54 and works 15 hours a week for £256 a month. Is there any help we can get with our council tax of £863 a year or anything else?

A You could get Income Support of £15.47 a week, which means a full council tax rebate as well. DLA is ignored, as is £20 of your wife's wages. Claim from Jobcentre Plus.

Q If I go to live abroad in the EU, can I take my State Retirement pension and Pension Credit with me?

A Your pension is payable anywhere in the world. Pension Credit is not payable if you live abroad permanently.

Q The Cold Weather Payments you mentioned recently have ridiculous criteria. Not only do they depend upon temperatures averaging zero for a seven-day period, but they also go on postcodes. I am an eligible pensioner, but it is years since I had one of these payments. What is the point of a benefit that hardly ever pays out?

A These payments are based on temperatures taken at a weather station linked to your postal area. I see you live in DL5, which means the temperature for you is taken at Linton-on-Ouse. It has not been cold enough there to warrant a payment for three years. This winter, payments totalling £215,428 have been made nationally. These include one payment for eligible people in postcodes DH8 to DH9 and DL11 to DL17, who are covered by the Boltshope Park weather station.

Q My wife, aged 66, has a works pension of £37.23 a month and a four-weekly State Pension of £92.68. My monthly works pensions total £537.15, as well as four-weekly Long Term Incapacity Benefit of £393.04. We have no savings to speak of. Our annual council tax is £1,019. Are we due any benefits or rebates?

A Yours is another example of how couples with an income of more than £1,000 a month can still be paying too much council tax. You are due Council Tax Benefit of £6.60 a week.
