MIDDLETON St George achieved a huge victory when they had 151 runs to spare at Heighington in Division A last Saturday.

Batting first, Middleton romped to the massive total of 264-3 in 35 overs.

Kevin Ashton top-performed, hitting no fewer than seven sixes and five boundaries in an unbeaten 88, Paul Rogers had four sixes and nine fours out of 74, while Stephen Rogers contributed 42 and Ayub 31.

Heighington were then all out in 29 overs for just 103, which included 36 with six boundaries by Andrew Beamson.

Wayne Birbeck was in good form with the ball for Middleton, taking 4-26 in six overs.

Haughton managed just 92-8 and went down by seven wickets to Aldbrough St John.

McGuire top-performed with the bat for Haughton with 35, but the batsmen were troubled by the bowling of Stapleton, whose six wickets cost him only 19 runs.

Aldbrough were then indebted to opener Wood, who was undefeated on 52 out of a match-winning total of 93-3.

Barningham defeated Barton by 89 runs. French was 79 not out and Bell added 46 to the Barningham total of 239-5, with Porritt returning 3-36 and Bell 2-54.

Barton were then all out for 150, which included 37 by Lockey and 41 from Pheasant. Kearton, with 4-40, and Moor (3-34) shared most of the wickets in the Barningham attack.

Raby Castle lost by 55 runs at home to Rockliffe Park, who totalled 169-5 when they went to the wicket first. Pybus opened with 85 and Briggs was also in form making 45, while Jones had 3-18 for Raby Castle.

The home side then made a poor start, but hopes were raised as Poole (34) and Scaife (25) formed a productive mid-innings stand. However, a total of only 114 was achieved as Pybus followed up his splendid performance with the bat by claiming 4-8 and Garbutt gave support with 4-23.

Spennithorne and Harmby overtook the Cliffe total of 145-6 with three wickets remaining. Most of their runs came from a third-wicket partnership between Greaves (47) and Farrow (58). Adamson, who shared the opening attack with Mughal, was the most productive bowler in the Cliffe attack, returning 3-30.

When the home side batted first, they ended on 145-6, including 51 by Rodgerson and 36 not out from Rutherford.

Ingleton lost by 17 runs at Cockerton, whose openers Daid (77) and Lethbridge (33no) laid the foundations for the match-winning total of 159-4.

Stuart Dawson opened with 40 for Ingleton and Watson added a half-century, but when the overs expired they were only 142-6, with four of the wickets falling to Leafe for 71 runs.

In Division B, Eryholme overtook the Barton total of 99 all out for the loss of just two wickets. Martin Fairey recorded two sixes and three boundaries in 47, scoring almost half the Barton total, which was achieved in 35 overs. Andy Craggs and Robert King had identical figures of 4-32 for Eryholme, who won after Craggs completed a good all-round performance by hitting two sixes and four boundaries in an undefeated 43.

After being bowled out for 114, Spennymoor dismissed Trimdon CCA with just 79 runs on the board. Groves took 5-32 and Troup had 3-38.

Batting first, Spennymoor were troubled by the bowling of A Lee, who claimed five of the wickets for a meagre six runs. Nichol top-performed with the bat for the home side, making 36.

East Cowton were all out for only 84 and lost by six wickets to visitors Lands, for whom Close claimed 5-18 and Linsley 4-15. Although Tucker was in form with the ball for East Cowton, returning 3-22, Lands were comfortable winners.

Heighington had just four runs to spare at the end of an exciting match at Brompton on Swale. Sowerby top-performed with 51 of the Heighington total of 106-7, with Hanratty taking 3-42 in the home attack.

Brompton almost clinched victory, but their hopes faded when Brown was run out after making 36 and the innings ended on 102-6 as Overfield picked up 3-40.

Catterick Village managed just 45-8 at Middleton in Teesdale, for whom Coatsworth captured 5-12.

When they batted first, the home team reached 115-4, with Coatsworth contributing 34 and Todd 39. Galey was in form with the ball for Catterick Village, returning 3-59.

Witton le Wear overtook the Rockliffe Park total of 180-9 with seven wickets left. Opener Chrisp batted throughout for an undefeated 69, Bannister made 36 and Sneath 31.

In the Rockliffe Park innings, Edwards top-performed with 55 while Graham scored 45 and Pounder 37 not out. Sneath, later to star with the bat, was also in form with the ball, taking 4-78.

In Division C, Aldbrough St John had seven wickets in hand at Haughton when Woodhouse ended unbeaten on 51 in a total of 107-3. Haughton were all out for 106.

Cliffe managed only 54 against King James, who had posted 91-6, and Barningham were restricted to 55 after Lands realised 96-9, including 48 not out from Elliott.

There was a close finish as Middleton Tyas defeated Dales by 14 runs. The match-winner for Middleton was Campbell with 5-47.

Trimdon CCA were sent back for just 33 after Raby Castle had totalled 94-9, with Carter taking 3-49 and Gorton 6-37.
