WORK on the second phase of a regeneration project is now under way.

Tees Valley Housing Group has started work on the next stage of the scheme at Ketton Road, in Stockton, to regenerate land overlooking the A177 Durham Road.

The first part of the project featured 18 two-bedroomed, three-person flats and two wheelchair-friendly apartments and has already been handed over to residents.

The second stage of the regeneration will include a further 28 units of family housing. It consists of ten two-bedroomed, three-person bungalows, two of which will be wheelchair accessible, plus 18 two, three and four-bedroomed houses.

Developers said the scheme was important because it was helping to regenerate a part of the town that had been overlooked in recent high-profile redevelopment schemes.

The multi-million-pound North Shore project is under construction on the other side of Stockton, on the banks of the River Tees.

Martin Hawthorne, director of development at Tees Valley Housing Group, said: "This is an important and exciting scheme for Tees Valley Housing Group and for this area of Stockton.

"These homes will offer affordable living for people in an area of town which provides easy access, not only to the town centre, but also the surrounding area."

Work is being carried out in partnership between Surgo Construction and Tees Valley Housing Group.
