FOLLOWING David Barron's sprinters at Thirsk often pays dividends so it would be foolish to ignore the prospects of his latest stable-star, Namid (4.10).

Namid proved his early-season, wide-margin, course-and-distance success in maiden company was no fluke by heading north to Hamilton, where he comprehensively accounted for a far better class of opponent.

In this afternoon's £20,000 Rectangle Group Handicap, Barron's turbo-charged speedster once again shifts up in grade but if Namid manages to maintain his current progression he should have the class to complete a well-deserved three-timer.

Sheer pace is also the forte of Musical Fair, who has hinted of late that she's about to make a welcome return to the winners' enclosure, in the Gormire Handicap.

Musical Fair (4.45) generates considerable velocity from the power housed in her not insubstantial backend. In addition, it's interesting to note the five-year-old mare prevailed off a similar mark over track and trip last year, which could turn out to be highly significant seeing as she ran so well when fourth at Beverley seven days ago.

Kevin Ryan, armed with arguably his best ever bunch of juveniles, looks good to take the Carlton Miniott Novice Fillies Stakes via Countrywide Belle (2.00).

Although Countrywide Belle opened her account at Southwell in April, it was her latest half-length Doncaster defeat at the hands of Crocodile Bay which suggests Ryan's filly is on an upward curve.

The pair drew fully six lengths clear of the opposition on that occasion, duelling like alley cats over a scrap of fish until the selection finally succumbed in the shadow of the winning post.

Honey Ryder (3.30), who seems sure to go off at decent odds, rates one of the best bets on a busy card at Nottingham.

Despite virtually bolting with Jamie Spencer on the way to the starting gates on her reappearance at Newmarket, Honey Ryder still managed to come back a good deal quicker than every single one of her rivals.

It doesn't take rocket science to work out that Spencer's mount wasted tons of energy on the way to post, yet somehow still produced the goods. According to the Official Ratings, Honey Ryder has a mountain to climb against Group-class performers such as Ringmoor Down but David Loder's decision to throw her in the deep end speaks volumes for her chances.

In the earlier totepool Awaybet Handicap, Far Pavilions (2.25) makes stacks of appeal.

The Alan Swinbank-trained gelding was taken out of his intended target at Thirsk recently due to the rain-softened ground. He'd previously won a valuable hurdle at Musselburgh, then blitzed a decent field on the Flat at Catterick, so provided it stays dry at the Midlands venue his winning streak seems all set to continue.

Over the sticks at Bangor, Fencote (2.15) can get punters off to a flyer by picking up the opener for Peter Beaumont.

Lady luck hasn't dealt Peter too many high cards over the past 12 months, including the fate of Fencote last time out at Kelso, where he was going like a tank until crashing out at the second last.

Beaumont's late developing eight-year-old has finally found the ideal opportunity to begin earning his corn.
