TV cook Annie Stirk was tempting tastebuds yesterday at the launch of a scheme to find some of the region's best food and drink producers.

She was joined by food and drink writer Elaine Lemm at a cookery day at the World of James Herriot Centre, in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.

They used the centre's kitchen to come up with treats from the 1940s and 1950s to launch the Flavours of Hambleton awards.

The awards scheme, now in its second year, recognises the best of the district's food and drink producers and is expanding this year.

Locals and visitors can now enter their favourite food and drink venues for one of eight categories in the district council-run competition.

The contest is part of a scheme to forge closer links between tourism operators and food producers, and to promote healthy eating.

Entries must be returned by July 31.

Nomination forms are available on www.hambleton.gov.uk or from council offices
