Frankie Dettori has been ruled out of the entire Royal Ascot at York meeting after picking up a six-day ban for careless riding at Haydock yesterday.

Dettori was given the suspension for his ride on Royal Orissa in the EBF D.Kitchen Ltd Handicap.

He appeared to edge right on the Derek Haydn Jones-trained runner while towards the rear of the field, interfering with the Fran Berry-ridden Aversham, who took a nasty fall.

Dettori's ban is to run from June 13-18 inclusive, which will rule him out of all five days of the high-profile meeting at the Yorkshire venue.

Stipendiary steward Louise Williams said: ''The penalty for careless riding ranges from a caution to nine days.

''Approaching the two-furlong marker Dettori manoeuvred to his right and Mr Berry clipped his heels. We considered it to be seriously careless and we have given him six days, so that is the whole of Ascot.''

Dettori will miss what would have been a top-class book of rides at the Royal meeting, including the scheduled return of last year's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes winner Doyen in either the Prince Of Wales's Stakes or the Hardwicke Stakes.

The Italian could also have ridden the likes of Monday's Sandown winner Fight Your Corner or last year's hero Papineau in the Gold Cup, and last year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe second Cherry Mix in one of the big middle-distance events.

Dettori enjoyed a bumper Royal Ascot last season, notching six winners highlighted by Group One victories from Refuse To Bend in the Queen Anne Stakes and Papineau in the Gold Cup.

He also partnered Punctilious to victory in the Ribblesdale Stakes, Duke Of Venice in the Queen's Vase, Kheleyf in the Jersey Stakes and Doyen in the Hardwicke.

Dettori's suspension follows hot on the heels of Johnny Murtagh's brush with authority at Lingfield last week.

Murtagh was given a three-day suspension for careless riding which would have ruled him out of the ride on ante-post favourite Motivator in tomorrow's Vodafone Derby at Epsom.

He successfully appealed against that suspension and his ban was reduced to two days, allowing him to defer the first day until Sunday.

Bans of two days or less can be deferred when there is a Group One race, but even if Dettori decides to appeal that will not apply unless his suspension is reduced by at least four days.

l Connections of Papineau have admitted that the Gold Cup hero has not had an ideal preparation in his build-up to today's Vodafone Coronation Cup at Epsom.

The impressive winner of last year's stayers' showpiece at Royal Ascot has been suffering from a bruised foot ahead of his drop back to 12 furlongs for the Group One contest.

In addition to his Ascot victory, Papineau also landed last year's Henry II Stakes and scored over distance in a conditions race at Goodwood.

Godolphin are looking for their third Coronation Cup victory following Daylami in 1999 and Mutafaweq in 2001.

A total of eight will go to post for the race - worth £145,000 to the winner - after German raider Shirocco was taken out. Warrsan is bidding for a hat-trick, having won in 2003 and 2004.

Trainer Clive Brittain said: "'He needed the race at Newmarket and has definitely benefited from it.

"He's certainly in very good form and the ground should be perfect for him."
