A LANCASTER bomber will take to the skies this weekend as part of an annual airshow.

The wartime plane is one of only two still in airworthy condition, the other being in Canada.

Teesside Model Flying Club will hold its show on Drovers Lane, in Redmarshall, Stockton, today and tomorrow.

In addition to the full-size Lancaster, 50 model planes are expected to be on show, along with an array of trade stalls.

One of the organisers, Tom Jones, said the event would feature some of the country's best model pilots.

Mr Jones said: "This is one of the biggest club-based shows in the area, so come and see some of the best model pilots in the country flying in our locality.

"This year's main attraction will be a fly-past by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster, which has a wingspan of 102ft.

"It promises to be a great weekend out."

The fly-by takes place at 2pm today and will be the highlight of the day.

Tomorrow, there will be a workshop for youngsters who would like to try their hand at model-building.

The gates open at 10am and admission is £4 for adults and £2 for children over three. A family ticket costs £8 for two adults and two children, and a weekend ticket for adults is £6, or £3 for concessions.

Camping is available, but must be pre-booked.
