THE crew behind the North Atlantic record rowing attempt were making steady progress yesterday.

Nigel Morris and George Rock, of Ingleby Barwick, Teesside, along with fellow crew members Steve Dawson and Rob Munslow, also had celebrations to make as they continued on their 2,100-mile journey from Canada to England.

Here is yesterday's report:

At 42-years-old and with a face as red as an angry farmer, we, the crew, are pleased to announce that Nigel Morris is today officially a birthday boy.

In fine male tradition, no one has bought him a present and all are refusing to wish him happy birthday!

In fact, that is not totally true, he was offered the opportunity to row all day on his own.

We won't repeat his reply.

Well the last 24 hours have been great. Naturally Best has been ticking away the miles as we continue to make steady progress towards Falmouth.

The wind is expected to come from the west for the next 48 hours, so we are hopeful of further big mileage.

Shipping continues to be our main concern, especially in the thick fog. Just a minute ago, we had a fright as a fishing vessel came directly on our heading.

Fortunately they were just coming over for some craic.

Yours

The Crew
