RUNNERS are limbering up for the annual Aycliffe 10k road race this month.

The event, sponsored by 3M Aycliffe, Great Aycliffe Town Council and Sedgefield Borough Council, is open to runners of all ages and experience.

It will take place on Sunday, June 19.

Last year, 250 people completed the full course and another 150 opted for the three-kilometre off-road fun run.

Organised by Newton Aycliffe Athletics Club, the run was started in 1998 to encourage the community to keep fit.

Organiser Sue Milburn said: "We wanted to give everyone an incentive to get off their armchairs and do some exercise, with an achievable target to aim for.

"It is wonderful that so many people have taken part over the years and the fact that it has also helped them raise thousands of pounds for charities through sponsorship, is a great bonus."

Application forms are available from Colin Gibson 12 Ainsty Hunt, Newton Aycliffe, or by ringing (01325) 321963.
