ONE in ten train passengers in the North-East have been dissatisfied with their overall journey, according to a survey.

The National Passenger Survey, which records rail trends around the country, said about ten per cent of the region's train passengers were unhappy with the service they received.

Christine Knights, chairman of watchdog the North-East Rail Passengers Committee, said: "Passengers want assurances that their rail service will continue and many want to see their journey experience improving. They are impatient for change.

"The committee looks to the train operating companies and network rail to work closely together to provide high quality services for the region's passengers.

"If the industry gets this right, only then will passengers develop confidence in Britain's railways.
