Darlington Council for Voluntary Service has received European funding to deliver grants across the town.
Grants of up to £5,000 are available, although the average grant awarded to individuals will be £1,000, for volunteer and employment training opportunities for vulnerable, disadvantaged and long-term unemployed people to assist them into paid or unpaid work.
