A SCHOOL has forged links with a North-East university in an attempt to figure out ways to make maths fun.

Pupils from Hurworth School, Darlington, are working with maths lecturers and undergraduates from Sunderland University to present the subject in ways students will find interesting.

Tasks set at a recent maths day included hypotheses like are girls better than boys? The pupils then had to present their findings on graphs and charts.

Teacher Rita Rees said the children responded well to problems being presented in new ways. She said: "The students found that maths can actually be fun!" she said.
