Darlington Building Society NYSD Premier League Division One: Leaders Thornaby wasted no time securing an emphatic ten-wicket victory at Barnard Castle where they dominated for almost the entire game.

There was limited resistance in the home innings particularly from John Ashworth (34) but a total of 153 achieved in 44.3 overs hardly appeared defendable.

Barnard Castle's fears were not unfounded. Michael Muldowney struck a six and 15 boundaries in an unbeaten 92 and his opening partner Ian McDonald contributed 51 not out to the first-wicket stand which produced 155 runs in only 25.3 overs.

Sam Toulson also had a good game for Thornaby and his 14.3 overs earned him five wickets for only 42 runs.

Marton remain second despite crashing to 71 all out in 26.1 overs at Blackhall. Shoaib Akhtar was again in splendid form with bat and ball for the Colliers and it was he who caused Marton's problems with five wickets for a mere 29 runs in 8.1 overs.

Runs were more plentiful for Blackhall and their 50 overs produced the formidable total of 254 for seven. Akhtar (52), David Lamb (40) and John Darby (34 not out) all gave support to opener Paul Moss whose 83 included ten fours.

Seaton Carew remain third after defeating Darlington RA by 43 runs at Brinkburn Road. Derek Morgan, with an unbeaten 59 and Kevin Rowntree (33) enabled Seaton to post 186 with Phil Marr taking four for 73 in the RA attack.

The home team never recovered from an indifferent start and the innings closed on 143 with Rowntree taking four wickets for 40.

Redcar amassed the huge total of 302 for six but were unable to force victory at home to Bedale. Martin Reeves (91) and Lee Powell (73) added 183 for the first wicket and the momemtum was maintained by Mally Whitehead with 38. Chris Codey, who struck ten boundaries in 58 held up the Seasiders and at stumps Bedale were 175 for four which included no fewer than 44 extras.

Stokesley's wicket lived up to its reputation as the target of 185 set by Normanby Hall was overtaken for the loss of just two wickets in only 36.2 overs. Rob Cameron-Clark opened with 47 and Andrew Weighell ended unbeaten on 65.

He partnered Neil Parkin, whose 51 not out included two sixes and six boundaries, in an unbroken partnership for the third wicket. Keith Thwaites (36) and Jarvis Ramzan, with one six and 12 boundaries out of 75, propelled Hall to 184 for six from 50 overs.

Andy Wilson was the matchwinner for Yarm at home to Darlington. He found the boundary line 13 times ending unbeaten on 82 in a total of 166 for five.

James Stock (32) and Colin Biglin, whose 84 included 13 boundaries were involved in a big second-wicket stand for Darlington. The innings produced only 164 with Tom Wyatt returning figures of four for 18 and Phil Andrews three for 47.

Geoff Ward's 41 was the best Wolviston could produce in a total of 141 for nine at Guisborough. Richard Hornbrook (51) and Anthony Parsons with an unbeaten 66 then steered Guisborough to a seven-wicket victory.
