DURHAM will be desperate to prove they have learned something about new wave cricket when they stage their first home Twenty20 match of the season tonight.

Nottinghamshire are the visitors in a repeat of Durham's inaugural match in this competition two years ago, and they have yet to surpass the winning total of 160 for four they made that night.

Nicky Peng led the way with 49, which remains his best after he missed last season's event through injury.

Nottinghamshire found that 170 for eight wasn't enough at home to Yorkshire on Sunday, and with Durham due at Headingley on Thursday they need to break their duck tonight if they are not to lose all interest in this season's Twenty20.

Coach Martyn Moxon said: "The team have really been looking forward to finally playing a Twenty20 game in front of their home crowd. We have been training hard and it is unfortunate we lost by such a slim margin at Leicester. We are confident of a good performance."

Moxon has named an unchanged squad, which includes Mark Turner, who could return at the expense of Liam Plunkett after missing Sunday's three-run defeat at Grace Road.

On the evidence so far, this is not the ideal competition in which to rebuild Plunkett's confidence after his nightmare return from injury in the totesport match at Arundel.

After a bad defeat there, followed by two away defeats in the Twenty20, Durham might want to start this evening's proceedings by taking a turn on the bouncy castle in their efforts to bounce back.

Play starts at 6pm, but there are plenty of opportunities for pre-match family fun, including a 40ft climbing wall, plus the chance of top-level coaching at the ECB Roadshow.

This is Durham's only meeting this season with Nottinghamshire, who pipped them for promotion in the totesport League last season, despite losing to Durham home and away.

They are led by New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming and include David Hussey, the big-hitting brother of Durham's absent skipper, Mike Hussey.

Wicketkeeper Chris Read and former England one-day man Mark Ealham are very effective at this form of cricket, while Paul Franks has been plundering runs at No 8.
