YOUNGSTERS in the Tees Valley will take part in a week of workshops to embrace an array of African cultures.

The African Experience Day will see pupils from four schools take part in workshops throughout the week.

The event is a joint project of children's art centre Spark and Tees Valley Music Service and will include handling authentic African masks and making African-inspired headdresses.

The pupils will then go to Tees Valley Music Service, in Bishopton Road West, Stockton, to participate in an African song and drumming workshop, learning to play rhythmic patterns on djembes, a type of drum.
