A Northern Echo reporter was near the centre of the terrorist attacks in London today.

Liz Lamb was travelling on a bus next to one of the double-decker buses which was blown up by terrorists.

She arrived at London's Kings Cross shortly after the first two bombs had detonated on the Underground.

Initially told by staff who were stopping passengers from going down to the platforms that the problem had been caused by a power surge, she decided to catch the bus.

Her route took her past Russell Square and onto Tavistock Square. Read her dramatic story in The Northern Echo tomorrow (Friday).

As well, former reporter Hayley Gyllenspetz was in London, waiting at Kings Cross station to catch a morning train to Darlington when chaos followed.

Hayley writes: "I can honestly say I have never been so scared in my life.

"At 9am I was waiting at King's Cross station to get a train back to Darlington after a night out in the capital.

"The station was as busy as ever, full of commuters and holidaymakers. The first sign that there was something wrong was a woman crying and covered in what looked like black soot.

Then suddenly we were ordered out of the station."
