ENGINEERING firm TAS Consultants has won a contract to supply control systems for a new Buzz Lightyear theme park ride at Disneyland Resort Paris.
The Stockton company will design and supply systems for Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast, a ride based on the Toy Story film character, which is due to open next year.
TAS is also hoping to win the contract to develop a white-knuckle ride, Tower of Terror, due to open at the park in 2008.
The company has been told to expect work on the two attractions to continue for up to two years. The initial value of the contract is £170,000, but managing director John Maplesden is confident the value of the deal will increase.
Three years ago, TAS designed control systems for the Disneyland Resort Paris studio tram tour, featuring special effects, and the contract - which had a similar initial value - eventually earned the engineering business nearly £1.5m.
TAS has involved other North-East companies in the contract - HC Controls, of Stockton, for panel fabrication, and EI.WHS, of Thornaby, for electrical installation support.
