Yesterday's Northern Echo profiled six North-East stars dreaming of Olympic success. Chief Sports Writer Scott Wilson revisits the region's super six to get their reaction to yesterday's news.

Paul Drinkhall (Table Tennis)

"It's great news that London will be hosting the Olympics in 2012. I've been training in Lilleshall for the last few days and the thought of London hosting the Olympic Games is all that anybody has been talking about.

"It would be great to represent Great Britian in a London Games. There's still a long way to go before I can think about that happening but it's a nice thing to have in your mind."

Holly Smith (Badminton)

"I found out the news from my dad when I got home from school and I was really happy that London had won.

"It would be really, really good to be in an Olympic Games in England and I think it's going to get more and more exciting as it gets closer.

"Lots of my friends do lots of sports like football, swimming and tennis and it's mad to think that one of them might be in the Olympics - or even me."

Kate Avery (Athletics)

"It's all really exciting. I was sat with my friends at school after dinner when the teacher came in and told us the news.

"They said London had been chosen to hold the Olympic Games in 2012 and we were all really happy.

"It's good for someone like me who is already involved in sport and can dream about taking part in the Olympics.

"But even people at school who aren't really interested in sport at all were quite excited about England holding the Olympic Games."

Lauren Anderson (Gymnastics)

"I really enjoyed watching the gymnastics at the last Olympics and that's partly what got me into doing the sport in the first place.

"I'd love to take part in the Olympic Games myself and it would be amazing to be able to do that in London.

"But, even if I wasn't able to do it, I'd still love the chance of going to London and watching the best people in the world."

Emma Reid (Fencing)

"I'm looking forward to the Olympics being in London and I think all of my friends that do sport feel the same as well.

"It would be amazing to take part in an Olympic fencing competition with all of my family and friends cheering me on.

"I knew I wanted to do well with my fencing anyway and this has helped make me even more determined."

Michael Robinson (Swimming)

"I always wanted London to win the vote and I'm really pleased that it has.

"I think it's really good for children who don't have a lot of money. It will give them a chance to see the Olympic Games and it might even mean there's money for some of them to be able to take part in it.

"It gives everyone who is my age something to aim for. Somebody is going to have to take part in the Olympics so why shouldn't it be me or one of my friends?"
