STAFF and children at a village school will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War next week with a trip to a former detention centre.

Pupils from Peases West Primary School, in Billy Row, Crook, will spend the day at Harperley Prisoner of War camp.

A writer and photographer will accompany youngsters and teachers with the aim of producing a book as a resource for future pupils. The project has been financed by a Home Front Recall lottery grant.

Headteacher Judith Stirk said: "We hope that the older generation will share their memories and reminiscences."
