STAFF, pupils and parents have said farewell to a school which has been well-loved for almost 60 years.
Albert Hill Nursery School, in Darlington, will close this summer and will merge with Gurney Pease Primary School.
Yesterday, the school hosted a nostalgic commemoration day to say goodbye.
Albert Hill Nursery opened in 1946 and in the past 60 years thousands of children have passed through the school gates.
Yesterday, current pupils enjoyed face painting, a bouncy castle and balloons while parents, staff and former staff looked at old photos and shared memories.
Headteacher Carole Billington said: "It has been a very busy day, but enjoyable, if tinged with sadness.
"The ethos of the school has always been to support the community and we wanted to end on a high note."
Money which was raised yesterday by the nursery will be donated to the early years development centre at Hurworth House.
