BY day, Steve Jefferis is a North-East clinical psychologist working with adults who have mental health problems, but tonight he is the star of a sell-out night of electronic music at Newcastle's Quayside.
His appearance is part of a three-day music festival, called Version - The Other Music on board the floating German contemporary art exhibition space, the ms Stubnitz, moored opposite Gateshead's Baltic.
Mr Jefferis, 32, releases music under the name of Cathode and is delighted to be rubbing shoulders with Finnish artists Pan Sonic and fellow Tynesider Andrew Hodson, who attracted the attention of the late John Peel with the album Map Music.
Mr Jefferis began work for the South Shields Health Trust in 2000 and said of his unusual combination of careers: "I don't know of any patients who have made the connection so far, but that may change if I become more famous."
He is working on a film soundtrack for North-East director Richard Fenwick for next year's AV Festival and is booked for Sweden's Norberg Festival at the end of this month.
The Version festival continues tomorrow and Sunday. For ticket details, contact 0191-232 1232.
