AN amateur theatre company is looking Stateside in preparation for its next production.

Sunderland's Royalty Theatre's opening play in its 2005/2006 season is The Murder Room, a comedy murder mystery set in England, but written by US playwright Jack Sharkey.

Its cast of six includes a young man in his 20s who needs to be played by an American or someone who can imitate the accent.

A reading is be held for the play next Friday, and Royalty chiefs are hoping there may be some visiting US students still in the region over the summer with a yearning to be on stage.

Local actors are invited to audition, and the part will go to whoever makes the best impression.

The cast comprises three men and three women, aged 20 to 50, and anyone wanting to take part will need to attend three evening rehearsals a week for seven weeks.

The reading will start at 7.30pm. The theatre is off Chester Road, next to the University precinct.
