A COMMUNITY garden has been created on overgrown land in Hartlepool.
The site, outside the West View Advice and Resource Centre in the town, has been turned into an area for quiet relaxation, with flowers, plants, footpaths and picnic tables.
The garden has been created thanks to funding of nearly £4,000 from Hartlepool Borough Council's Pride In Hartlepool initiative and from Hartlepool Voluntary Development Agency.
To mark the completion of the green space in Miers Avenue, the centre held an open day on Wednesday, which included a buffet lunch and free taster sessions.
Open five days a week, the centre runs a wide range of vocational and leisure courses and offers a free independent advice service.
Centre manager Val Evens said: "The new garden is wonderful. We asked local people what they would like to see us do with the land and they said they would like an area where people could come to relax and enjoy tranquil surroundings."
