WARREN HUGHES has completed the first two-day test with the ASM team in preparation for the forthcoming first round of the Le Mans Series.

Along with team-mates Olivier Pla and Miguel Amaral, the Sunderland racer completed more than 200 laps at the Paul Ricard Circuit in the south of France over the two days.

The only setback came when a proposed night run on Sunday evening was cancelled because of snowfall.

At the close of the two day sessions, Hughes and the team’s Zytek car lay in second place in the LMP2 Class, only 0.4 secs behind leading team Strakka in an Acura Honda.

Hughes said: “It’s great to be back working with the team again.

“We very quickly got back into the swing of things and the car ran perfectly over the two days. The weather was a little colder than we expected which gave us problems getting heat into everything, especially the tyres. That made it harder to find extent of the grip levels we should expect for the race in April.

“The snow on Sunday night was obviously unexpected, which was a shame because we wanted to do some night running in preparation for Le Mans itself in June.

“This test was as much about preparation for 24 hours at Le Mans as it was for the shorter six-hour race at Paul Ricard.”

That will be Hughes’ only run in the car before he returns to the circuit for the first round of the Le Mans Series Championship over the weekend of April 10-11.
