COMEDIAN Roy “Chubby”

Brown has appeared in court to deny assaulting a young woman following a foul-mouthed row in a car park.

The argument erupted after the comic reversed to within an inch of Kelly Oliver’s grandmother’s car, in the car park of Sainsbury’s in Middlesbrough.

The victim alleges the Middlesbrough-born star hurled abuse at her before getting out of his silver Lexus 4x4 and assaulting her in September last year.

The 65-year-old, whose real name is Royston Vasey, denied punching the woman in the face when he appeared in Teesside Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that Vasey, of East Harlsey, Northallerton, wound down his window and shouted: “What the f*** are you looking at?” before getting out and storming across the car park to confront the slightly-built young woman.

Kelly Oliver, who is now six months pregnant, said: “I felt intimidated, he wasn’t acting like a normal person – he looked like he was on something.

He just got out of his car and marched over to me.

“He had his fist clenched and that’s when he punched me in the face.”

The court was shown CCTV footage of the alleged incident but magistrates dismissed the quality of the images as no use to either the defence or the prosecution.

Cross examining the 22-year-old, Mr Vasey’s barrister Eric Elliott, said: “I suggest you gave him a volley of abuse, shouting ‘watch where you are going, you fat b*****d’.

“He (Vasey) replied, ‘who do you think you are talking to like that’ and the first person to use any violence that day was you.

“You pushed him not once, not twice but three times.”

But Miss Oliver denied starting the trouble saying: “You don’t know what happened you weren’t there, I was pushing him away from me.”

During police interview, Mr Vasey admitted calling Miss Oliver a scumbag and claimed he had been upset by her foul language.

Rachel McKenna, a mother-of-three who was parking her car near the incident, said: “I heard shouting and swearing coming from a couple of people at the ticket machine, so I decided to stay out of the way until they were finished.

“I looked over again and I saw the man, I don’t know whether he punched her or whether it was a slap, he hit the girl, then she grabbed his arm.”

The case was adjourned until Tuesday, when Mr Vasey is expected to give evidence in his defence.
