PRINCE ANDREW yesterday opened a £35m development at the North-East university his daughter attends.
The Duke of York opened Newcastle University’s student and administrative services building.
Princess Eugenie, who is in the first year of a degree studying art history, English literature and politics, was not at the opening.
He said: “I came here wearing two hats, one as a member of the Royal family coming here to open a very important building and the other as a parent.
“A great deal of vision and effort has gone into creating this building and it is a particular pleasure for me to be here because I recognise how important it is for a university to support its students.”
The Prince had a tour of the building and met students and staff, before unveiling a plaque to commemorate the occasion. King’s Gate, was completed in autumn last year.
