IT’S still nearly three months away - but already thoughts are turning to getting into the festive mood.

Tickets are about to go on sale for one of York’s most evocative Christmas traditions– Carols in Kirkgate.

Now in its 48th year, the singing of carols on the Victorian street at the city’s Castle Museum is many people’s favourite way to start the festive season.

This year the York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir will join the Kirkgate singers, dressed in Victorian outfits, to perform festive favourites and traditional carols in the atmospheric setting.

In the past the event has proved a complete sell-out and those wanting to attend this year are advised to book early.

Tickets go on sale from October 12 from the Museum’s admission desk and Tuesday October 13 by phoning 01904-650333.

The performances will take place at 8pm on December 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8. Tickets are £12.50 for adults and £10.50 concessions. Programmes are included within the price.
