A MAN has gone on trial accused of raping a teenager during a three-in-a-bed romp after a Halloween party.

Craig Wayper is alleged to have attacked the girl when she was too drunk to consent to having sex with him.

Wayper’s mother raged at him after catching him and a friend of his in bed with the 16-year-old last October.

Daniel Taylor, 22, denied a charge of rape but pleaded guilty to sexual assault on the first day of his trial.

Jobless Wayper, 27, also denies charges of rape and sexual assault, and is this week facing a trial at Teesside Crown Court.

The court was told that the three were found in the bed at Madeline Waper’s home, in Wolsingham, County Durham.

Mrs Waper said she shouted at her son, before he and his friend left the bedroom, and she spoke to the girl. Earlier, the pair had taken the teenage student back to the house after finding her lying in the garden at the party.

Mrs Wayper gave the girl a blanket, a hot drink and a bucket to be sick into, before her son took her upstairs.

He stripped her and removed his own clothes, and when Mrs Wayper entered she was also being groped by Taylor.

Peter Makepeace, prosecuting, said Mrs Wayper was “disgusted and horrified that they had taken advantage of this girl”.

The girl’s mother found her after being driven around a number towns and villages in Weardale, and she later called the police.

Wayper was arrested the next morning for rape, but he claimed that she instigated sex with him, the jury heard.

Mr Makepeace said she had earlier had outdoor sex with another man at the party, which was consensual.

Mr Wayper, of Lydgate Avenue, Wolsingham, could give evidence when the defence case starts today.

Quietly-spoken Mrs Wayper said that she popped out to visit a neighbour, and when she returned she saw a bottle of beer on the staircase landing.

She said: “When I saw what appeared to be going on, I thought it was disgusting and horrible. I was that angry, and I ran out shouting.

Mrs Wayper initially told police she thought the girl was “nine out of ten” drunk, but under cross-examination yesterday, she said she did not look drunk later, when they were downstairs having a cup of tea and a cigarette.

The case continues.

■ Taylor, of Deerness Estate, in nearby Tow Law, will be sentenced later.
