A CHARITY ball will be held next weekend in memory of a mother-of-three who died from breast cancer.

The Ellen Timney Foundation Charity Ball will be held at Hardwick Hall Hotel, Sedgefield, in County Durham, on Friday October 9.

The charity raises money to help poorly and underprivileged children in the area and fund pilgrimages to Lourdes for sick children.

The 63-year-old, who died in March 2007, spent her life helping others including youngsters affected by the Chernobyl disaster.

After she passed away, friends and family set up the foundation so her good work could continue and last year’s event raised £3,000.

Daughter, Jane Morgan, who lives near Sedgefield, said: "Everyone said Mam would have loved the night and all who knew her talked of many fond memories."

The evening starts with a reception drink followed by a four-course meal. Entertainment will be provided throughout the evening from saxophonist Ray Dales, entertainer Mo Brown and dancing to Zodiac Disco.

A raffle, tombola and auction will be held and there will be a gaming table.

Hayes Travel are sponsoring the dinner and money raised by the auction, up to £750, will be matched by Barclays.

The hotel is offering special overnight rates on the evening of the ball for those attending, for details call 01740-620253.

Tickets are £30 from Maxine or John Robinson on 01740-620042 or email john@robinson644.freeserve.co.uk before Sunday October 4.
