Edward Kennett will be one of the star guests boosting the Redcar Select at Giffardsson’s Farewell, the Benefit meeting for Dan Giffard at Redcar on Thursday 22nd October.

Dan said “We’ve known each other for a lot of years. I was doing motocross and he was doing speedway. We used to go BMXing together, and doing what kids do. We didn’t live far from each other.

“When I started doing speedway we were round each other’s houses every day.

“I started riding on the kids track at Eastbourne and he’d been riding there for about twenty years!

“I rode with him at Rye House in the Conference.

He’s been to meetings with me, I’ve been to meetings with him and I still do work with him on his bikes in the winter, even now. We are still pretty good mates.

“The thing with Edward is that you could put him on any kind of motorbike, he has exceptional talent.

It’s just guiding him along the right path sometimes.  “He’s moved away from home like a lot of us have. He has not got a full time mechanic this year, he’s doing his own bikes, and I think that gives him a little bit more interest. A lot of riders with full time mechanics just float around and sort of lose their way, if that makes sense.

“Eastbourne is a great club but someone like Edward definitely needed to move away. The move has proved its worth because he has put points on his average. He is enjoying himself a lot more than he was.

“The pressure he has had at Eastbourne over the years has been phenomenal from the age of 12 or 13. I wouldn’t like that much pressure.”
