POLICE are investigating the theft of two caravans from the same village on the same night.

Both caravans, each valued at around £10,000, were stolen from outside their owner's homes in Wolsingham, County Durham, overnight on Tuesday.

One of the caravans, a white Ford motor home, stolen from Silver Street was later found at around breakfast time today in Jarrow, South Tyneside.

It was recovered by Northumbria Police and inquiries are underway in that area.

The other vehicle, a Volkswagon Transporter, also white in colour, registration number P241 CJH, is still missing.

It has a metal rail around the roof and is fitted with a bike rack.

It was left locked and secure on the driveway of a house in Lydgate Avenue, which is in the same area of the village as Silver Street.

Thieves removed the gates from the driveway before smashing the driver's side window of the motor home and was driven off between 11pm on Tuesday and 2.30am this morning.

Whilst Durham police cannot say for certain that the two thefts are linked officers said there is a strong possibility they are.
