A NEW scheme to build a play area that brings children closer to the environment is set to get underway in Ryedale.
The £14,000 development for the Riverside View Play Area, in Norton, near Malton, was designed following consultation with children, parents and local residents.
Designs for the site were put forward by several local companies after it was designated as a priority spot for improvement and will have environmental and ‘natural’ features.
Based on the feedback, local company Image Playgrounds, based at Sheriff Hutton, were selected to develop the site.
A new wooden play area will be installed, including a double climbing wall, parallel bars, stepping stumps and boulders along with some landscaping to include low level mounds, timber logs and bamboo grass.
The scheme is part of the £200,000 grant received by Ryedale District Council from the Big Lottery Fund to improve play facilities in the area.
Work is due to start on Riverside View on October 5 and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
