INDIAN folk singers, brass bands and up-and-coming rock groups are among the attractions lining up to perform at this year’s East Durham Music Festival.

The annual event, which runs from Saturday (October3) to Sunday, November 22, promises something for all tastes with a packed programme of concerts and events.

Highlights this year include the musical travelogue Dance for the King on Friday November 6, in which composer guitarist Paul Donnely takes audiences through different tempos and tunes from country and blues to flamenco and jazz.

Donnely is backed by a three-man ensemble on percussion, bass and guitar, and dancer Amanda Gregory for several pieces.

Other performers include renowned American blues singer Michael Roach and British folk singer Bob Fox, who will jointly be headlining this year’s Seaton Musicfest on Sunday, October 25 and Indian folk band Pallab Kirtania which will be helping celebrate Hindu Diwali Festival on Sunday, October 11.

Indie rock outfit The Flytes, touted by the music press as the next big thing to come out of the North East; will also have top billing at the Freaky Weasle Album Launch event at Peterlee Leisure Centre on Friday, November 20.

Colin Robson, Durham County Council’s Arts Development Officer, said: "As usual, the festival offers an impressive line-up of gigs, concerts and dance events that will take place at venues around east Durham.

"In addition, there is a host of workshops for both budding and more experienced musicians to take part in."
