TODAY in an ordinary two bedroom house not far from Darlington, police have uncovered a huge cannabis farm. It was not easy to find, even after a tip off. Concealed in the basement garage, in the house, on West Bridge Street, Crook, County Durham, were 180 little plants, with a potential full grown value of £1,000 each. This is a lot of money. A 31 year old man was arrested and interviewed in connection with the cultivation and supply of cannabis. Sergeant Paula Kempin said: “The officers who went to the house had to search very thoroughly before they uncovered the farm. It is clearly been in place for some time, and it is one of the biggest we have come across in this area.” Darlington has recently been a part of a trial where heroin addicts get their fix for free, as part of treatment. It is hoped that this will stop them funding their habit through crime, and lining the pockets of illegal drug dealers. If the scheme can be justified for heroin users, perhaps it will be extended to include all illegal drug addict transactions?
